MEA-RA

The MEA-Representative Aseembly met this past weekend. The leadership of the organization was re-elected unopposed. [Speaking of which, ballots will come out this week for the secretary and treasurer positions of the SPTA, also unopposed.] Concerns about legislation and referenda were raised -- more on that in a subsequent post. NEA President Dennis Van Roekel gave a really good speech about the relevance and importance of the NEA, including some reflection on what it needs to do differently. Debate -- occasionally spirited -- surrounded the adoption of resolutions and new business items.

The SPTA was represented by Brian Jandreau, Jennifer Major, and me. Next year, the seats will be open for election again. Please consider running and attending. If more of us get involved a little, SPTA will be a stronger, better informed, more flexible organization.
